Common Armoured Vehicle System Cavs Program

Common Armoured Vehicle System CAVS Program

Joint Development and Production

In early 2020, Finland, Estonia, and Latvia embarked on a joint development program for the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS). The first phase of the program resulted in the delivery of 66 CAVS vehicles to Finland in late 2023.

Additional Finnish Order

Recognizing the capabilities of the CAVS, Finland recently exercised an option to order an additional 40 vehicles, bringing the total number in their possession to 106. This order underscores Finland's commitment to enhancing its armored vehicle fleet.

Patria 66: The Foundation of CAVS

The CAVS program is founded on the Patria 66 armored wheeled vehicle, developed by Finnish defense company Patria. An advanced successor to the Patria XA, the 66 boasts all-wheel-drive capabilities, providing superior mobility in diverse terrain.

Finland's Armoured Vehicle Upgrade

The Finnish Defence Forces' purchase of Patria 6x6 armored vehicles as part of the CAVS program represents a significant modernization of their armored vehicle arsenal. These versatile vehicles will bolster Finland's defensive posture and enhance its interoperability with its Baltic neighbors.

Conclusion

The Common Armoured Vehicle System CAVS Program is a testament to the power of international collaboration in defense. By pooling resources and expertise, Finland, Estonia, and Latvia have acquired a next-generation armored vehicle that will strengthen their collective defense capabilities. The program's success serves as an inspiration for future multinational defense initiatives.
