Timberwolves Chris Finch will coach courtside after surgery
Minnesota Timberwolves coach Chris Finch, who underwent surgery Wednesday to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee, will coach courtside in Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals against the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday night.
Finch had the surgery in Vail, Colorado, on Wednesday morning and returned to Minnesota later that day. He was at practice on Monday and Tuesday and said he feels good enough to coach in the game.
"I'm feeling good," Finch said. "I'm still a little sore, but I'm able to move around and do what I need to do to coach the game."
Finch said he will be limited in his movement, but he will be able to call plays and make adjustments from the sideline.
"I'm not going to be able to run up and down the sideline like I normally do," Finch said. "But I'll be able to do what I need to do to coach the game."
The Timberwolves are facing a must-win situation in Game 5. They trail the Nuggets 3-1 in the series and need to win the next two games to force a Game 7.
"We're in a tough spot," Finch said. "But we're not going to give up. We're going to fight until the end."
3-seed Wolves pulled off an impressive sweep of the No 6-seed Suns in the first round while the No. 1-seed Nuggets beat the No. 8-seed Clippers in six games.
The Timberwolves are led by All-Star center Karl-Anthony Towns, who is averaging 24.3 points and 10.3 rebounds per game in the playoffs. D'Angelo Russell is also averaging 22.3 points per game, while Anthony Edwards is averaging 20.3 points per game.
The Nuggets are led by two-time MVP Nikola Jokic, who is averaging 25.3 points, 10.8 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game in the playoffs. Jamal Murray is also averaging 21.3 points per game, while Aaron Gordon is averaging 15.8 points per game.
